No natural enemies

Did you know hummingbirds have no natural enemies? I guess they do now: Praying Mantis Eats Hummingbird. My kids caught a Praying Mantis this past weekend and stuck him in jar with a couple of houseflies. Shortly afterward, I watched him eat one of the flies. I was amazed that this not-to-quick-to-escape insect was able to capture and eat the fly. I knew they were predatory, but didn’t realize how good they were. I wish I had some pictures, but, really, the ones of the hummingbird being eaten beat anything I would have.

  1. Mantis

That’s interesting. I just saw a praying mantis the other day as well, as did my girlfriend. I wonder why suddenly people are seeing them all over the place. It could be some sort of seasonal thing I suppose. I don’t know a whole lot about the mantis or it’s habits. *shrug*
