There is a NYTimes story today on the “success” of Slashdot. Some people are understandably confused. Rogers Cadenhead asks how can a site once valued more highly than the New York Yankees be touted as a success because it makes a little money selling T-shirts and soap?
I can’t speak for the Slashdot folks, but I can say that if any of my projects is “sort of profitable”, I’ll be really happy and will consider them an awesome success.
That’s because I don’t really care a lot about making a gazillion dollars. Sure, it’d be nice, but I love what I do and that is reward enough. Recognition is great, too. But, even if they just stay hobbies that I do in my spare time, I’m happy.
