Patented anti-piracy technique.

Worried that Microsoft would use Palladium to stop the copying of unlicensed software (i.e. “piracy”), a hacker has patented the technique for using Palladium in this way. If the patent is granted, he won’t license it to Microsoft and they won’t be able to use their software to fight piracy.

Its probable that if this actually happened, Microsoft would find another way to get what they wanted. Just as Barnes & Noble found similar ways to accomplish quick checkout on their website while avoiding Amazon.com’s one click patent.

But, its nice to dream.

Though I don’t know what I’m dreaming about since I don’t use Microsoft software
